Woodworking with a Servant’s Heart
Hi, I’m Jason—better known to my 9 grandkids as "Papaw Jay."
Welcome to my woodshop in Boonville, Indiana. If there is one thing I’ve learned in my 46 years, it’s that anything worth doing is worth doing with your whole heart.
Guided by Faith
My business is named "Papaw Jay's," but it belongs to the Lord. My faith in Christ isn't just something I do on Sundays; it’s the foundation of how I run this shop. I believe that integrity matters even when no one is looking. When I select a piece of walnut or sand a maple cutting board, I see the beauty God put into the grain, and I view my work as a form of stewardship. I build every piece as if I were building it for Him—which means no shortcuts and honest pricing.
Forged in Service
Before I was a woodworker, I was a soldier. I served 12 years in the U.S. Army, with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Through the hardest days and the longest nights, I held onto Isaiah 41:10:
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
The military taught me discipline, but God taught me peace. Now, I find that peace in the woodshop. I apply that same military precision to my joinery, but I build with a heart of gratitude.
Built for Family
I have 6 children and 9 grandchildren (with more on the way!). I know that a dining table isn't just wood; it's where you celebrate Christmas, where you cry over coffee, and where your grandkids color outside the lines. I have been building for over 15 years because I love creating "forever" items—heirlooms that are strong enough to outlast us and carry our stories to the next generation.
Thank you for supporting a veteran-owned, faith-based small business. I look forward to building something special for your family.
